Our Return From G-Anime!

February 8, 2010 in Conventions, Performances by Mark P. Tjan

The Brief: G-Anime is a bilingual anime convention held during February in Gatineau (Hull), Quebec, Canada. It serves the Ottawa-Gatineau community and many nearby and abroad.

The Ontario Anime Society were invited as guests to attend G-Anime, performing a brand new number to open their Saturday evening Masquerade. Our skit this year? Go West, Young Street Fighter, directed by Sydney Jones and yours truly, with writing and performances by Aesees Bakhshi, Adrian Javier, Alexandra Spridgeon, Christina Gyimesi, Eva Cherney, Larry Fan, Magda Roebuck, Sydney Jones, and myself. Special thanks goes out to Rusty Shackleford, Nickademus, Jenni St-Onge, and especially Nik Szefranek for all their help.

Video of the Performance – Special thanks to Hikari Kuragari for the video.

Our performance brought down the house (almost literally!), and to my knowledge has been a real crowd-pleaser for both our audience and the attending judges. Thanks to everyone who cheered and enjoyed the skit, we hope to see you again next year!

We’ll have a full report of the convention shortly. Watch for it!

A Note About Profiles

January 14, 2010 in Site Design by Mark P. Tjan

When you’re building your profile, certain fields auto-link terms. Some of them don’t, like “Description” under roleplaying, or “Methods” under cosplay. If you want to link a particular term, use square brackets around the word you want to link.

Links provide members with a way to search each other’s interests. :)

Profile Fields Revised

January 12, 2010 in Site Design by Mark P. Tjan

Profile fields have finally been revised with a more intelligible Geekology and a few new categories for everyone to fill out. We’ve even added a fun “Roleplaying” section where you can fill in a character for yourself.

Hey, maybe we should have a group for an RP sometime? :)

Blog Themes

January 10, 2010 in Site Design by Mark P. Tjan

Nicola recently asked about blog themes, and I figure a few of you guys are wondering if your blog has to look the way it looks. Well, here’s some good news: No!

This week I’ll be installing a few themes which I think take advantage of BuddyPress and also look aesthetically pleasing. One of the things I just know we’ll all want are custom header images, so I’m going to look into themes which feature those as well.

That said, please also remember to delete your test comment by Mr. Wordpress. :) Cheers!

Blogs Work!

January 9, 2010 in Site Design by Mark P. Tjan

We’re all switched over to a private server and our blogs now work! If you want to have your own blog, please create one at your leisure. I do ask however, please only create one, as there is limited space on our server for such things. That way all members will have a fair chance at blogging without our server costs going up.

Thanks!

Blogs Currently Unavailable

January 7, 2010 in Uncategorized by Mark P. Tjan

Blogs will be unavailable until we switch over to Dreamhost P.S. Our registration is being processed, and it may take some time to transfer over. Regardless, blogs will come soon. Everything else works, however!

Also, please take note that you cannot use any of the services until you log in. Please see about doing so at your first convenience. Thank you!

BuddyPress and Theming

January 7, 2010 in Site Design by Mark P. Tjan

We’ve got BuddyPress working now, but it obviously uses a default theme. We’ll be rectifying that shortly, and hopefully nothing breaks! At any rate, all the functionality of BuddyPress is now available, which means we can make forums, have discussions, friend lists, groups; all those good things.

If you’re a member and haven’t logged in yet, please do so now! Instructions are in your e-mail, so please make sure you’ve read and followed them. Thanks!

Site Progress

January 6, 2010 in Site Design by Mark P. Tjan

The site’s going well so far. A lot of videos covering our old work are finally up, and we’ll soon have a forum/chat system installed via BuddyPress. Theming BuddyPress to make it compatible with the current design is probably going to take a little while, but it’s underway already, so it shouldn’t be that much longer.

Currently, members can read/post/edit news, edit their profiles, and create personal blogs for themselves. With BuddyPress we’re going to take all that and make it more integrated with a variety of rich communication options.

For members wanting to apply an avatar to their profile, there’s a thing called Gravatar, which serves as an avatar central for all Wordpress blogs. Simply go and sign into Gravatar and it’ll give you all your avatar options. It’s really easy, trust us.

Guest Appearance at G-Anime 2010!

January 4, 2010 in Conventions, Performances by Mark P. Tjan

Hey ladies and gents, the OAS will be making a special guest appearance at G-Anime this year! If you caught our show last year, you’ll remember us doing our “I’m a Mac, I’m a PC” parody ad, with “I’m a Sub, I’m a Dub”. This year, we’ll be bringing a much bigger show to the party with “Go West, Young Street Fighter”, a skit sure to please fighting game enthusiasts and fans of all kinds.

We’ll be opening the Masquerade as usual, which starts on Saturday night around 7:00pm. Please come out and watch us, and be sure to cheer on your favourites in the Masquerade!
